Most recently, he served as interim CFO, overseeing a large team and managing a $7 billion capital plan. His extensive experience includes running Revenue Cycle, Decision Support, Financial Analysis, Budget, General Accounting, Payroll/AP, Capital Finance and Government Reimbursement departments.
Sousa’s academic credentials include a Master of Business Administration from California State University, Sacramento and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Strategic Management and a minor in Communication Studies. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
“We are excited to welcome Noel Sousa to our UMMS family,” said Mohan Suntha, MD, MBA, President and Chief Executive Officer of UMMS. “Noel’s enthusiasm for health care and his proven track record in financial leadership make him an excellent fit for our team. As UMMS welcomes Sousa, the organization also acknowledges the retirement of Joe Hoffman, who has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Hoffman has been an integral part of UMMS, directing the System’s financial strategy and managing the accounting and finance departments. His distinguished career includes serving as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health for 20 years and as the Chief Financial Officer of the University of Maryland Medical Center for four years. Hoffman’s leadership and dedication have left an indelible mark on UMMS.
“We are profoundly grateful for Joe Hoffman’s years of service and remarkable leadership,” said Dr. Suntha. “His contributions have been instrumental in shaping the financial health of UMMS, and we wish him a fulfilling and well-deserved retirement.”
