A free business clinic is coming to Viroqua this August, aimed at connecting entrepreneurs with the resources, experts and advice they need to launch or grow their ventures.

VIROQUA, Wis. (WXOW) – A free business clinic is coming to Viroqua this August, aimed at connecting entrepreneurs with the resources, experts and advice they need to launch or grow their ventures.

The Small Business Clinic is set for Thursday, August 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Western Technical College in Viroqua.

It’s hosted by the Office of Business & Entrepreneurship, the Wisconsin Small Business Development Center, Western Technical College, and the Viroqua Chamber.

The event is designed as a “choose-your-own-adventure” day, featuring both lecture-style group sessions and 30-minute one-on-one appointments with consultants.

Topics range from marketing and taxes to legal questions, AI integration, business planning, and cottage industry support.

“If you are just starting a business—if you’ve had a business for a long time or if you’re thinking about succession planning—there are going to be resources at the clinic for you,” Office of Business & Entrepreneurship Business Consultant Nora Roughen-Schmidt said.

Roughen-Schmidt says one of the biggest benefits is accessibility. Rather than scheduling separate appointments with different agencies over the course of weeks or months, participants can connect with everyone in one day, in one location.

“You can come, stay for the sessions that you need, get the information, and get started,” she said. “And the best part is all of this is free of charge.”

Beyond the workshops and consultations, participants can explore a resource area with booths from regional organizations like WIBC, UW Extension, and local economic development groups.

Organizers say the day also offers valuable opportunities for networking, peer support, and even a little fun.

“We started to notice a lot of people just walking around together, sharing information,” Roughen-Schmidt said. “Lots of business cards being passed out, people looking for folks they can partner with. The human factor is just as important.”

Lunch will be provided and a networking happy hour hosted by the Viroqua Chamber will follow the event.

Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
